Back in November 2015, Nominet who are the UK’s governing body and registrar for top-level .uk, .wales and .cymru domains, announced a plan to raise their wholesale pricing for the first time since 1999.
The increase, which has come into force on the 1st March 2016, affects all domain names ending with .UK, including .co.uk, .org.uk, .ltd.uk and .uk.
Russell Haworth, the CEO of Nominet said in his statement:
“We’re committed to running a first-class service for .UK registrants, including our renowned customer service, and we’re doing more than ever before to ensure the .UK space is safe and trusted home for all. But costs have risen considerably since we last changed the price, and we need to compete in a promotion-driven industry.”
This change means that we now have a new pricing structure in place and the .co.uk and .org.uk domain names now cost £25 per 2 years.
One thing that hasn’t changed however, is our commitment to providing the best value for money. We will, therefore, continue to offer our customers a free domain name for the 1st year when purchasing one of our Website Packages.
